How big is God’s arm chair?

We think of an armchair as maybe big enough for one, two at a push if they’re comfortable with getting up close and personal. But I feel like God’s armchair is a bit more mystical than the beaten up old one in the corner of your living room. Knowing God, it is both an armchair for cosy chats and a never-ending sofa where we can find all the love and family we need to get us through the holidays.

While you rest your head on the comfy cushions of God’s custom made sofarmchair maybe you can ask yourself: How big is your own armchair? Is there room and welcome in it for people who need to find family, friends and connection this winter? Where are there sofas and chairs in your community? In your local churches? Do they even have armchairs?

Prayer:

Dear God of welcome

Thank you that you welcome us no matter what

That you have room and love for every soul upon this earth just as they are

Please be with those whose families have not welcomed them

Guide them to places where they will know love and welcome

Help us to be some of those places
