Philippians 2:13

for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Lord God, we feel your forgiving gaze on us
as we strive and struggle to fulfil your purpose
by our strength alone.

Lord God, we sense your patient gaze
when we think that by our efforts alone
we can become all you want us to be.

Lord God, show us today how to let go
of our agenda
of all that makes us feel good
of all that makes us feel important
so that we can receive your grace so freely offered.
