God of reconciliation
Matthew 5: 23-24
So if you are about to offer your gift to God at the altar and there you remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there in front of the altar, go at once and make peace with your brother, and then come back and offer your gift to God.
“Go at once and make peace with your brother”.
It doesn’t have to be a major falling-out to hurt.
It doesn’t have to be a life-long feud to sour a relationship.
Often it is just pride
which prevents us from making peace.
We want the last word.
We want our own way.
We don’t think we have been properly appreciated.
Pride stands in the way,
and our offering is tainted.
God of love,
God of peace,
God of reconciliation,
Teach us your way,
give us your grace
to receive your gift in humilty,
and then we will be able to put away our grudges,
our resentments,
our petty squabbles,
and come to you,
offer you our lives,
and receive your blessing.
