God of expectation
Luke 1:26-31
In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you.” But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.
God of expectation,
In Mary you found a young woman on the cusp of adult life, and you believed in her, just as she believed in you.
We thank you for the vision and commitment of so many young women and men for whom the unlikely and the unimaginable can, by your Grace, become possible and real.
Fire us with the courage of youth, so that we come to smile at your crazy, upside-down world, where barriers fall and enmities become improbable friendships. Bless the lovers and the dreamers who, in their inspiring idealism, seek that rainbow connection which binds the things of earth to the things of heaven. May they always stay true to their astonishing calling, and may they know you are never far away. AMEN.
