God knows
Lamentations 3:28-36
When we suffer, we should sit alone in silent patience;
We should bow in submission, for there may still be hope.
Though beaten and insulted, we should accept it all.
The Lord is merciful and will not reject us forever.
God may bring us sorrow, but loves us with a sure, strong love.
God takes no pleasure in causing us grief or pain.
The Lord knows when our spirits are crushed in prison;
God knows when we are denied the rights given us;
When justice is perverted in court, God knows.
In solitude, in silence,
might I have half a chance of finding you again?
Where then can I go, Jesus?
a deserted beach,
a barren hillside,
or is there quietness enough
if I sit in my room?
Will you come back
if I stop and shut up for once?
if I hit the brakes on all the busyness?
You know how it is in my heart today,
you know how it is,
you know.
Sunrises and lonely places
beckoned you to breathe and stare and be,
what is it about solitude
that lets us know we’re not alone?
