Friday is for creatives
Listen to this daily worship
2 Chronicles 2: 13-14 (NRSVA)
13 ‘I have dispatched Huram-abi, a skilled artisan, endowed with understanding, 14 the son of one of the Danite women, his father a Tyrian. He is trained to work in gold, silver, bronze, iron, stone, and wood, and in purple, blue, and crimson fabrics and fine linen, and to do all sorts of engraving and execute any design that may be assigned him, with your artisans, the artisans of my lord, your father David.
When it comes to offering worship to God — here is an interesting insight into the significance of the creatives in the Hebrew Scriptures. Solomon wanted to offer the very best to God by building a place of worship that was uniquely beautiful. So he looked to his neighbour Hiram the King of Tyre to supply him with a great deal of materials and also expertise. In other words he brought in the experts to augment the talent that he already had. He wanted his vision enlarged. And he need to add to his skill base. Even although Hiram wasn’t from a tribe of Israel.
Perhaps within our worshipping communities we need to leave space for our neighbours and those on the edge of our communities to contribute to our ministries to add their contribution to the worship of God. Believing comes from belonging and belonging often comes from an invitation to contribute.
PRAYER:
Lord
Open our eyes
To the bigger picture
To see the wider vision
Our expectation is too small
Enlarge our tent
To make room for others
Forgive us when we neglect to see
Your hand of grace and compassion
Working through a Huram-Abi
Lord when you send the artists to our doors
Give us the courage to welcome them in
And give them a place at the table.
Time to Reflect:
Who is it that God is inviting you to collaborate with? Could God be inviting you to reassess your attitudes to money, wealth and possessions and people?
