Romans 8: 1-8 (NIVUK)

1 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

5 Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace. 7 The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. 8 Those who are in the realm of the flesh cannot please God.

There is now no condemnation. Let that sink in. Where have you witnessed, and felt, the knife edge of condemnation? The gavel slamming on your heart? Take yourself to a time today where you felt locked in, frozen in time, thought-stricken, dumbed down, hidden away. That’s what the life in the flesh is like. Not always, but sometimes. See what you once were.

And then see in high-definition spectacle, the moment when freedom rises within you in solemn flame, in blue-white iridescent fire tickling you inside, taking you over, as you walk into your freedom, your gift from Father, by his Son.

This is Freedom in the Spirit, a place of peace, life to the full, no hostility, no fear; but a life full of Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Fruity flames in abundance.

Oh, as you start your week tending the embers of your white-hot freedom, may you find all of those heavy law-burdens, all those many millstones, all those daily grinds, fade in comparison to the freshness of what He’s bringing within you. Take heart, and step in.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit
Light the fire of freedom within us
Torch with flame
the things that hold us back
and blow heat on
the things that draw us close to you
Mighty Ruach, Spirit of Counsel and Might
Warm our midst
with your ever-present light.
Amen
