Faithful Stewards

February 18, 2013 0 0

Romans 8:19-21

For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.  For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

It would be easy to despair if we only think of the evident climate change that is happening, of the world’s poor already suffering flooding, drought and hunger, and of the apparent inability of people, nations and governments to take really effective action to reduce the threat. But if we take seriously Paul’s reflection on the cosmic dimensions of the resurrection and gift of God’s Spirit, we can be motivated by hope.

God of creation and of re-creation,

you care for everything that exists,

for our mysterious universe

as well as our amazing planet Earth;

you promise the restoration of all things in Christ,

all that has been spoiled, degraded or abused

in the world in which you have put us.

We cannot see how but we believe;

we are called to be your co-workers,

we are called to be faithful stewards;

help us live in the light of your promise,

give us the gift of repentance

for all the ways we are irresponsible

in our living and caring

and let us start today. Amen.
