Eureka!
Listen to this daily worship
Proverbs 9: 1-6 (NIVUK)
1 Wisdom has built her house;
she has set up its seven pillars.
2 She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine;
she has also set her table.
3 She has sent out her servants, and she calls
from the highest point of the city,
4 ‘Let all who are simple come to my house!’
To those who have no sense she says,
5 ‘Come, eat my food
and drink the wine I have mixed.
6 Leave your simple ways and you will live;
walk in the way of insight.’
Eureka! I have found it! The old story is told of the Greek scholar Archimedes once stepping into a bath and noticing that as he sat down the water level rose. Suddenly, though there was nothing new about this pattern, Archimedes seemed to understand in a new way that there was a direct relationship between his volume and the volume of water being moved or displaced. The story tells that so excited was he at making this connection that ran down the street of the town naked to go and tell others!
I wonder if you have had a Eureka moment at some point? Not necessarily a discovery of some great scientific principle but just grasping something that caused your heart to leap? Perhaps it was something you had previously heard but hadn’t fully figured out, perhaps it was an idea that you were aware of but not could see its application.
For me a wonderful moment of insight was when I grasped the Bible teaching that through faith in Jesus I became a special child of God, in fact not just any child, it was as though I were viewed as Jesus to the heavenly Father — my link or union to Jesus meant that I was effectively as His Son was — cherished beyond anything I could conceive or imagine.
This revelation gave me an inner contentment and confidence I had never known previously, it gave me a peace which even today remains unaffected by the storms of life (which still come past with unfailing regularity) and it creates a hope undiminished by events, emotions and circumstance.
PRAYER:
Lord I praise you for moments of revelation, when my eyes are opened to new things, when my heart embraces new wonders and when I rediscover that you are the God who wants us to grow in our knowledge, in our experience and in our appreciation of Your amazing grace and goodness.
Thank you Lord. May I continue to be open to listen and learn from You. Amen.
