Drop what you are doing
Acts 9:1-6
Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do .”
God of heaven come to earth, you are always ready to surprise us and to break into our lives when least expected. And when that happens, much more changes than our name. Saul may have become Paul but his whole life was turned around when you burst onto his scene. There he was, thinking he was doing the right thing, serving you as best as he was able. Little did he know that he was about to go through a complete about turn!
That's what seems to happen when you call us Lord. We might be on our way but you call us to be people of THE way and that always means new directions to travel in. And as Paul discovered, you call us so that you can send us - send us out to serve you.
Lord, you had to do something dramatic to get Saul's attention. Might you be needing to do the same with me? Speak, for your servant is listening.
In Jesus' name,
AMEN.
