Being Re-made in His Image
Psalm 89 : 14 - 18
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, Lord.
They rejoice in your name all day long; they celebrate your righteousness.
For you are their glory and strength, and by your favour you exalt our horn
Indeed, our shield belongs to the Lord, our king to the Holy One of Israel.
Righteousness and justice, love and faithfulness,
these qualities I associate with you, the living God,
and I pray that these qualities may increasingly be seen in my own living.
I pray for righteousness which puts the call to serve you before my narrow, selfish desires;
for justice which puts the needs of the downtrodden at the head of my daily agenda,
for love which lets me see your image in the soul of everyone I meet,
for faithfulness which keeps me from giving up or giving in to temptation.
I pray for these qualities to grow in my life today,
and for the grace to recognise them in others
and to rejoice each time I do.
So may my heart remain open to your experience your goodness in new ways,
even from unlikely people
and even when I fear that it may be hurt.
May my mind remain open to discover your goodness in new ways,
and to learn of it from unlikely people,
even when I fear that my certainties may be shaken.
May my eyes be open to see your goodness in new ways,
and to see it in unlikely people,
so that I may learn to trust in the vastness and the generosity of your righteousness and justice,
your love and faithfulness.
