Dance of Love
Listen to this daily worship
1 John 4: 7-12 (NRSVA)
7 Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. 11 Beloved, since God loved us so much, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.
The words of John in this part of his letter are both beautiful and confusing. Try to read them in a logical way and you will hurt your head. Read them as a tentative description of the dance of love within God, which extends out to each of us and encompasses us all, and your heart will get caught up in its exquisite truth. What a joy to be perfected in the love of God that lives and flows through all creation!
PRAYER:
Creator, Spirit, Son: ever-three and ever-one,
we delight in the melody and movement of your love,
never static,
never still,
always swirling in glorious harmony,
calling to us to join in.
May we be caught up in the rhythm of your love,
held and guided by your gentle touch:
secure enough to be lost in the music,
free enough to add our own style,
confident enough to invite others onto the floor, AMEN.
