Daily Obedience

July 28, 2012 0 0

Ecclesiastes 8:2-4

Obey the king’s command, I say,

because you took an oath before God.

Do not be in a hurry to leave the king’s presence.

Do not stand up for a bad cause,

for he will do whatever he pleases.

Since a king’s word is supreme,

who can say to him, “What are you doing? ”

Lord,

am I not my own boss?

Am I not the master of my own destiny?

Isn’t my life mine, to do with as I please?

This reading seems old-fashioned, almost feudal.

What has it to do with me?

Yet I am not my own, for I have been bought with a price:

my life is to be lived to God.

Help me to give daily obedience to Christ,

to be a captive to his love,

a servant held by grace,

that, as I ‘render up my sword’,

I may be a soldier advancing your kingdom

in love and in loyalty to the King of kings. Amen.
