Campfire moments
Hebrews 13:20-21
Now may the God of peace, who brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, make you complete in everything good so that you may do his will, working among us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.
All this week we have been looking for those campfire moments; those moments when we are sure and secure and can rest in the comfort of our faith rather than struggle. We have thought of original blessing replacing sometimes our obsession with original sin, thought about being more willing to accept God’s promises at face value, thought about the abundance of God’s promise, thought of the abundance of God’s promise, our reliance on God, and our some time tendency to struggle our faith rather than live it.
Yesterday we thought about Paul, finding happiness and fulfilment in prison, today I want to return to blessing, and this sign off from the writer of Hebrews. The writer of Hebrews seeks out the deep roots of the Christian Good News in the Hebrew Bible, in the faith of chosen people. His whole thesis is that Jesus, life death and resurrection is the culmination of God’s plan from the beginning. Our blessing is the realisation that hard as we work, hopefully, and faithfully as we live, and lovingly as we meet, it is God who makes us “complete in everything good.”
I am God’s created
Breathed with His Spirit
Loved by his son.
I am the threefold promise of grace
I am the focus of his love today
In this, today, I am not alone
We are God’s created
Breathed with His Spirit
Loved by his son
We are the threefold promise of grace
We are the focus of his love today
In this, today, God of Peace
May we find peace.
In this today, great shepherd
May we be securely enfolded in your love
In this today, author of the covenant
May we be bold to proclaim the word of love.
That you are God’s created
Breathed with his spirit
Loved by his son
In this today
May all find peace.
Amen
