John 11: 32

32 When Mary reached the place where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet and said, ‘Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.’

In the series ‘Broken’, Father Michael returns home, tired after a demanding day. A woman has left a phone message. Her disturbed son Vernon needs to talk to him.  Michael decides to leave it until tomorrow and goes to bed. Later Vernon is killed in an incident with the police. Michael is left with the question, ‘What if I had just phoned back and just let him speak?’

God our Father,

It’s hard when we cannot be what we want to be.

It’s hard when we cannot be what people want us to be.  

We are only so much, we have only so much, we can only do so much.  

Thank you that Jesus in his humanity understood this.  

At times there wasn’t enough of him to go round.

Help us to live with our limitations but still believing in what you can accomplish in the life of a broken healer.
