Luke 2: 16-20 (NIVUK)

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.

The big day has arrived, the saviour has been born and we stand in awe before such a precious child.

What might we say? How can words encapsulate and express such a cosmic event and wonder?

Perhaps it is best that we stand silent before the living Word.
Perhaps we ought to kneel in reverential pose.
Or do we sing and dance… or do it all?

However we express it — treasuring the moment like Mary
Or praising as the Shepherd
Let our hearts express the age old word
Gloria in excelsis Deo!
Glory to God in the highest!

PRAYER:

Loving God, this day is the day of adoration, as we gaze upon your unparalleled mercy and grace towards us and all creation.
In this fragile young life we perceive our future and our place of safety
Lord it is so breathtaking, so enlivening and so humbling that you, the God of all creation should come to be with us in human flesh, to know our weakness, to feel our pain and ultimately to bear our sin.
Lord help us to take it all in, help us to find a way to express our wonder and to offer up that precious gift you seek most as a response from us – our heartfelt love and worship.
Father thank you for this child, that enables me to be your child. Amen.
