Breaking Barriers
Gal 3:26 – 28
So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,
27 for all of you who were baptised into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
Paul’s most radical statement about the implications of the Good News of Jesus has implications for the ordering of society and the church that we are still coming to terms with two millennia later. The breaking down of every social barrier is a kingdom activity; in our own society where women still receive less pay than men for the same work, and suffer many other kinds of discriminatory behaviour we, in the church, are challenged to live out the meaning of our baptism
God, maker of all that is eternal and creator of all that is new,
make us unexpected agents of change for the world around us.
Remind us that faith is not remaining content with the way things are,
but catching your vision of the way things can be.
Give us courage in the present.
Empower us to speak when the odds appear to be against us.
And grant that we may see the surprising results that can come about
when unexpected people bring about unexpected transformation
in the name of Jesus Christ.
How might my life today demonstrate that all are equal before God?
