Galatians 4: 1-5 (NRSVA)

1 What I am saying is that as long as an heir is underage, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. 2 The heir is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. 3 So also, when we were underage, we were in slavery under the elemental spiritual forces of the world. 4 But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.

In his letter to the churches in Galatia, Paul desperately wants the Galatians to know that God cherishes them right now, not when they have somehow proved themselves worthy. They don’t have to earn God’s love by going through convoluted steps. They belong, they are adopted, they are family!

And the good news is that we belong too! Paul would say the same to us!

May you know today that you are prized

that you are prized like the first drop of rain

prised from the sky.

May you know today that you are hard-won.

that you were laboured for,

that you are the culmination of tremendous effort.

May you know today that you are adopted

named, recognised, held,

that you belong.

Pray:

Abba God

May your will and your love be known

in the face of rejection,

bitterness,

breakdown

and fear.

Thank you for prizing us.

Amen.
