Basecamp - New Job
Jeremiah 29: 11
For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Basecamp is the place where the climbers prepare before they start off on the next leg of their journey. We all have numerous experiences in our lives we could call basecamps. Times when we have had to move into a new place.
I would like to share with you some of my basecamps and how the people I have met in them have shaped and formed my life. The point of the exercise is that we all should take time to reflect in order that we can recognise the hand of providence at work in our lives.
The first basecamp I want to share with you is the place of transition from school to the workplace.
It’s a lonely place being a teenager leaving school and starting out in employment. Take a moment today to think of young people searching to find themselves and facing difficulty in the work place.
A New Start
Lord,
I remember it well
A new grey suit
White shirt and red tie
Rocking
On the Underground
Wearing “Buddy Holly” specs
Trying to look cool
A new routine was about to begin
A new way was opening up
I was apprehensive
Striding down
Govan Road
Thinking
Praying
Not knowing what to expect.
Yet you had prepared the way
You opened the doors
You brought me through
Your hand was on my life
Thank you for the lessons I learned
In the banking basecamp
Thank you for colleagues
Who taught me about teamwork
Who allowed me to make mistakes
Who shared their lives with me
Who still are around my life after all these years!
Lord
There are no coincidences in your plans
We may walk the road feeling apprehensive
But you have already walked ahead
To ensure the outcome.
Give to each us the insight
To recognise your guiding hand
As we step into 2017
