Bamboozled!
Listen to this daily worship
Galatians 4: 19-20 (NRSVA)
19 My little children, for whom I am again in the pain of childbirth until Christ is formed in you, 20 I wish I were present with you now and could change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.
Paul is perplexed. bamboozled, dumbfoonert! It’s fair to say he is far from detached! He is absolutely invested in the Galatians, he even thinks of them as his children, though they weary him, stretch him, push, and defy him (much like children the world over and throughout history then!).
Behind his frustration is a fondness. And a sincere desire that rather than bamboozling him, that they may be fools for Christ to bamboozle the world.
Pray:
Rather than bamboozling apostles
help us Lord to bamboozle the world
to bamboozle it with our love and compassion
our gestures and actions
our words and decisions.
May we be bamboozlers for Christ
pleasantly surprising a world
in need of mercy and love.
May our generosity bamboozle the economy
defy expectation
and unseat historic injustices.
May we be holy bamboozlers,
confounding long established principles
and safe assumptions.
Amen.
