Anxiety
Matthew 2:13
After (the visitors from the East) had left, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said,”Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him. So get up, take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you to leave.”
The comfortingly familiar story of your birth is shot through with anxiety, Lord.
Vulnerability. Grief. Herod’s defensive fear of losing his kingdom.
Joseph, shouldering the responsibility of escaping to Egypt with you in the night. Did he speak Arabic?
Then your family moved again. Nazareth, Bethlehem still too dangerous.
Lord, may your people keep the stories of God alive in the refugee camps of Turkey, Jordan and the Lebanon to trace strands of comfort, meaning, in the anxiety.
