Peter Explains His Actions
1 The apostles and the believers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. 2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him 3 and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.”
4 Starting from the beginning, Peter told them the whole story: 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was.6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles and birds. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’
8 “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’
Jesus’ story of atonement and love
Acts 11:1-8. Verse 5: I saw a vision
We begin to realise there is another story, another work; not our own but Christ’s. Something we may have never seen before or maybe heard but never understood.
Prayer:
Thank you Jesus, that there is another story,
another life narrative other than my own;
your narrative.
Thank you that this narrative is one of acceptance,
of peace, of abiding and not of striving.
You abide in the Father and so we can abide in you as somehow,
you and the Father make your home in me.
Lord, this is difficult for me to grasp.
Help me by your Holy Spirit to be at home with you making your home in me. (Jn 14:23).
Lord help me let go of my own preconceived ideas
to allow me to see a fresh vision of the ideas that you preconceived before creation.
Lord, do your work in me.
In your name.
Amen.
