An Appetite For Life
Matthew 6:9-13
Pray then in this way:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And do not bring us to the time of trial,
but rescue us from the evil one.
“Give us this day our daily bread.”
For the appetites that make us human –
the need and delight in food and drink;
the longing for touch and intimacy;
the search for companionship and the need for solitude;
the sense of adventure and the desire to make a home;
the ambition to change the world
and the patience to wait on God –
for the appetites that make us human –
Lord, we give you thanks.
I pray for all who strive to ensure food enough,
justly distributed –
for the family table
and the family of the nations.
Bring near the day when all can find bread enough,
with dignity.
Help me today,
in this parish and beyond,
to bring to people
the things that both
keep the body
and feed the soul.
In the name of the One
who is the Bread of Life.
Amen.
