Acceptance
Matthew 26:14
Then one of the Twelve – the one called Judas Iscariot – went to the chief priests and asked, ‘What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?’ So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
Lord Jesus, sometimes I marvel at the grace and love you give me and the acceptance you show me, even when I least deserve it. But sometimes I don't live the way you showed, and withhold that same acceptance I received, from others who need it. Then I think about Judas, who travelled with you, who ate with you, who heard the sermon on the Mount, first hand and maybe even received the honoured guests portion at the last supper. Yet he was going to betray you, and all along you knew it - but you accepted him anyway, and sought forgiveness for all who wounded and killed you. This is a breadth of love I will never fully realise but the depth of your love and the breadth of your acceptance means that it is never you who walk away but us, as the darkness inside overwhelms us and makes us frightened again. Help us to see with new eyes that you never leave, and learning to trust means learning to live - eternally.
Amen
