Abundant Reality
Zephaniah 3:14-17
Sing, Daughter Zion;
shout aloud, Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
Daughter Jerusalem!
The Lord has taken away your punishment,
he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;
never again will you fear any harm.
On that day
they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.
The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.”
There are moments dear Lord, precious seconds,
when you break down into our everyday lives
and remind us of your miraculous creation.
Times in our lives when the sense of “Emmanuel” - God with us, is so great –
we feel we could reach out and touch you.
In these moments,
our hearts miss a beat
and our eyes are opened to the magnitude of your love for your children.
In these times, we know we would run across the ocean into your arms
and would not be consumed by the waves.
Our prayer for today is for more of your moments,
more of your clarity in our lives.
Open our eyes to the ways that you meet us –
help us see you in the face of the new born baby;
can we hear you in the crunch of the autumn leaf beneath our feet?
May the sweet taste of the bramble we eat from the bush on our walk
cause our hearts to sing and the feel of the wind on our face bring us to our knees?
As our child wraps his arms around us for a final kiss of the day,
or our muddy dog jumps us and licks our face,
enable us to feel your kiss,
in the sweet silence of the early morning,
may your voice be the one we desire.
Make yourself known to us today dear Lord –
shout loudly as we often don’t hear.
