A Picture of God’s Grace
Exodus 31:1-5
The Lord said to Moses, “I have chosen Bezalel, the son of Uri and grandson of Hur, from the tribe of Judah, and I have filled him with my power. I have given him understanding, skill, and ability for every kind of artistic work—for planning skillful designs and working them in gold, silver, and bronze; for cutting jewels to be set; for carving wood; and for every other kind of artistic work.
In the hymn “Moved by the Gospel, let us move” there is a line 'Let artists paint with skilful hands'.
Creator God, as a new day dawns, I thank you for the artistry and talent of many people.
You have placed within them the gift of painting, music, dance, sculpting, and design.
Their imagination, creativity, delight in colour, movement and carving humbles me and moves me, sometimes to tears, as I see such beauty and emotion laid bare.
The work of these artists often gives me a new perspective on life, I can see every human emotion in what they present. Everything from love to hate, joy to despair and light to darkness.
Through their work, I pray that we can see the truth of your love for this world.
Amen.
