A People of Love
Listen to this daily worship
Ephesians 3: 16-17 (NRSVA)
16 I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, 17 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love.
When I had completed my training as a minister and was looking for a community to serve, a wise mentor said to me that the most important question I needed to ask myself was “Can I love these people?” Fortunately for me when I came to Inverurie, I was able to answer yes then and can still say yes now.
But loving people well takes energy and commitment. There are times when my job as minister feels a bit like being a human battery. In other words, it’s not what I do that matters as much as what I can enable or empower others to do.
The trouble with being a battery of course, is that you can get run down - especially if you don’t recharge regularly.
The trouble with being a ministerial battery is that too many of us seem to think we can or should be able to re-charge ourselves. You’d think a minister would know better, wouldn’t you? After all, Paul makes it clear that we can’t charge ourselves. We need to be charged by the power of God’s love if we are to love others.
Part of our job as members of Christ’s community is to keep an eye out for those who need a re-charge. To do that, we need to stay connected ourselves.
PRAYER:
Energising God
Your love has no limits. None.
When we are rooted in you,
When we are grounded in your community
We have access to that limitless field of love
Keep us building new circuits and refreshing old ones
That we might regenerate our capacity for love each day.
Amen
