A People in Communion
Listen to this daily worship
Ephesians 3: 18-19 (NRSVA)
18 I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
My middle grandchild currently likes to check her height against her parents’ bodies after dinner. This is so that she can see how much she has grown, her parents having cunningly instilled the idea that vegetables help you grow.
At three she knows that growing is good and that she is good at growing. She is also fascinated by comparative sizes. Things aren’t just big they are ‘huge’ while others are ‘teeny tiny’.
Paul seemed to be able to access his inner three year old. Christ’s love isn’t just big, it is so big that its breadth, length, height and depth can barely be grasped. In Communion we are offered a taste of the mystery which is the fullness of God. In Communion we share that mystery and it helps us to grow together, in love and in grace.
PRAYER:
Lord,
We taste and see that you are good
We taste and remember the love of Christ.
We taste and know that we are not alone
Fill our mouths with the flavour of grace
That we might grow.
Amen
