A moment of pure grace
Matthew 28: 18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’
Not to all nations, not today, Jesus………..just up the road in fact
To the local church, the local congregation………….
I held wee baby Ivy in my arms, newly baptised,
Newly welcomed into the Church,
That odd, unique, broken, loving, beloved, body of people who belong to you.
As I gazed on this little girl, I saw what you must see, the potential to live life in all its fullness.
Then……..a moment of pure grace……….she stopped “girning” and began to smile upon us, to chatter in her own language, and we who were singing a song of blessing to her, were in turn blessed by her.
Lord Jesus, we give thanks for local congregations, men, women, children, who gather to worship,
Who continually………are surprised by grace.
Amen
